
The mind behind IGA, Indranil Garai believes in bringing about “a greater socialization of art”.
Working tirelessly in this pursuit over the past decade, his objective is to create not just beautiful designs but “art works that will transcend the realm of aesthetics” His achievement in the field of Architectural Sculpture has been recognized by several institutes both in India and at an international level.
He has been nominated by the American Biographical Institute in North Carolina, U.S.A. as “Man of the Year” in 2004. He is the second Indian sculptor to have been awarded the International Scholarship for Sculpture by the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, Canada. Very early in his career he was awarded the National Scholarship for Sculpture by The Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India.
An adhoc committee member of the Pune University, he has been featured in the Pune Who’s Who for his paramount contribution in the field of Architectural Sculpture for the city. He has also worked in close association with the Japanese sculptor Tomoo Kobori in 1996, during the execution of the Tagore-Araikampo Memorial Sculpture at Vishwa Bharati, Shantinikaten which was sponsored by the Tagore-Araikampo Foundation of Japan.
Indranil Garai works across different platforms; each becoming his canvas to portray something new and unique…hospitals, multiplexes, residential and housing societies, factories, country clubs to a basement…he believes in taking art everywhere.“Public art that I do is Art for the people; it is an extension of my self, experiences, interests and beliefs. I intend not only to beautify space but also to give an all encompassing experience to my viewer. Sculpture to me is not only a 3 dimensional monument but a ‘Concept’.”
